The Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, LCDA, has carried out a comprehensive fumigation exercise across major markets in the council area.
The goal is to enhance public health, food safety and environmental hygiene.
The exercise, conducted by the Environmental Health Services Department of the council, covered Alasua Market, Egbeda Market and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Modern Market. It took place on the evening of Friday January 30, 2026.
The fumigation was part of the deliberate efforts by the council to eliminate pests, disease vectors and other harmful organisms that pose health risks to traders and consumers.
The Executive Chairman, Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Hon. Akindele Adunni Opeyemi, explained that the exercise is critical to preventing disease outbreaks, controlling pest infestations and safeguarding food items sold in the markets.
According to the council chairman, a cleaner and pest-free market environment will reduce health risks, protect traders’ goods from damage and prevent economic losses.
Hon. Adunni noted that the initiative would also boost consumer confidence, promote commercial activities and improve the overall welfare of traders by providing a safer and healthier working environment.
Reaffirming her administration’s commitment to the wellbeing of residents, she described the exercise as a proactive intervention that would be sustained to maintain sanitary conditions across markets in the council area.
The chairman, according to a statement by the council’s media and publicity office, urged traders and other market stakeholders to cooperate fully with the fumigation team and comply with all safety precautions to ensure the success of the exercise.
The market fumigation forms part of the council’s broader public health and environmental sanitation strategy aimed at improving the quality of life of residents of Mosan-Okunola LCDA.
