ALIMOSHO, LAGOS – Alimosho Local Government has launched its community-based security outfit, the Alimosho Security Network (ASN).
The ASN will focus primarily on gathering and reporting intelligence at the grassroots, monitoring environmental offences and ensuring that suspected offenders are handed over to the police or other relevant authorities for appropriate action.
As part of its responsibilities, members of the network will also be deployed to schools across Alimosho to complement existing security arrangements and contribute to the protection of students, teachers and school facilities.
The unveiling coincided with the training and passing-out parade of newly recruited members of the security network.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, commended the trainers and instructors for their efforts and expressed confidence in the quality of the recruits.
Akinpelu charged the personnel to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and uphold the confidence reposed in them by the local government.
“I therefore urge you to remain dedicated to this course and never betray the trust the local government has reposed in you in the discharge of your duties,” he said.
The chairman encouraged the recruits to regard their new responsibilities as an opportunity to contribute to the security and development of the community.
He also noted that ongoing discussions around the establishment of state police could provide additional opportunities for committed community security personnel.
The local government said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen community safety through closer collaboration with conventional security agencies.
The administration expressed the hope that the initiative would deepen community participation in security and contribute to building a safer and more secure Alimosho.
