The Chairman, Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has charged the newly sworn-in cabinet members to prioritise service delivery and grassroots development.
At the swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday March 24 at the Council Secretariat Hall, Akowonjo, Hon. Johnson congratulated the appointees, describing their emergence as a call to service rather than a mere political appointment.
He urged them to demonstrate diligence, integrity, and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing the need to remain responsive to the needs of the people and to deliver results that justify the trust placed in them.
“Let me first congratulate all those who will be sworn in today. This opportunity is not by chance. It is a call to service, a call to work for the people, to listen to the people, and to deliver for the people,” he said.
The Chairman emphasised the significance of Alimosho as not just the largest local government in Lagos State, but a vibrant community of traders, artisans, transport workers, youths, and families whose expectations from government must be met.
He stressed the importance of teamwork, warning against internal divisions, while urging the appointees to remain united in pursuit of the collective good.
Hon. Johnson urged all appointees to engage directly with residents, noting that effective governance extends beyond offices into the streets, markets, and communities.
“Leadership requires humility. Governance is not done from the office alone; it is done in the streets, in the markets, and within our communities,” he noted
SLG, engine room of the administration
Speaking on administrative responsibilities, the chairman specifically highlighted the strategic role of the Secretary to the Local Government, describing the office as the ‘engine room’ of governance.
“To the Secretary to the Local Government, you are the engine room of administration. Your role is to ensure that decisions are not only made but implemented effectively. Discipline, coordination, and efficiency must define your office,” he stated.
Addressing the Supervisors, Akinpelu noted that they are closest to the grassroots in terms of service delivery, urging them to ensure visible impact across key sectors such as environment, health, works, education, and agriculture.
“Our roads, markets, schools, and communities must reflect your efforts,” he added.
He also charged the Special Advisers to provide practical and forward-thinking counsel that would help the administration address real challenges facing residents.
“Let me be very clear, this administration is about results. It is not about titles; it is about service,” the Chairman declared.
Highlighting his administration’s priorities, Akinpelu reaffirmed commitment to cleaner and healthier communities, stronger support for markets and local businesses, improved security through community collaboration, and youth empowerment initiatives.
The council boss assured residents that the new team would work tirelessly to justify public trust and accelerate development across all wards, calling on stakeholders to support efforts aimed at moving Alimosho forward.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, welcomed the new cabinet members and urged them to contribute meaningfully to the progress and successes of the Akinpelu-led administration.
Dr. Banjoko, advised the appointees to uphold professionalism, adhere strictly to due process, and maintain high ethical standards in their duties.
He stressed that their actions must align with the broader developmental objectives of the administration.
The Deputy Director, Legal Officer of Alimosho LG, Barrister Taiwo Onayinka, administered the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance, and Oath of Secrecy on the appointees.
He urged them to remain committed to public service.
“You must always remember that you are not here because of yourselves; you are here because of the people. Do not deviate,” he advised.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alimosho, Pastor Ibrahim Abiodun; a former Chairman of the council and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olufemi Adebanjo, popularly known as ‘Eyes Open’; party leaders; community leaders; religious clerics; and families and friends of the appointees.
