An Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI) scholar, Ibrahim Atanda Fatade, has been honoured with the prestigious Course Director’s Prize for Excellence at the 2026 graduation ceremony of Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
Fatade received the award during the university’s graduation ceremony held on Thursday, July 30, in Coventry, where he was recognised for his outstanding academic performance, intellectual rigour, ethical conduct and dedication throughout his course of study.
The Course Director’s Prize is one of the institution’s highest academic honours, reserved for graduates who distinguish themselves through exceptional scholarship and exemplary character.
The Academic Excellence Initiative described the recognition as a significant achievement not only for the award recipient but also for Nigeria and the organisation’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence among young people.
According to the Initiative, the award demonstrates the ability of Nigerian students to compete and excel in leading academic institutions around the world.
In a congratulatory message seen by Community Standard, the Project Coordinator of AEI, Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi, said the award reflects the values of discipline, hard work and purposeful mentorship promoted by the initiative.
Ogungbayi congratulated Fatade on the achievement and expressed confidence that the recognition would inspire other scholars to pursue excellence in their academic and professional pursuits.
“This award is proof that excellence is not an accident. It is a habit. We congratulate Scholar Ibrahim Atanda Fatade and pray that this honour is the first of many laurels for him, for AEI, and for Nigeria. May his story inspire thousands to choose discipline over distraction, and purpose over complacency.”
He also commended the management, faculty and Senate of Coventry University for providing an environment that supports the academic and personal development of international students.
The initiative urged Nigerian youths to remain focused on education, noting that determination, discipline and commitment can open doors to global opportunities regardless of one’s background.
The Academic Excellence Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to mentoring and supporting outstanding students, expressing optimism that more scholars under its platform would continue to attain international recognition.
Fatade’s achievement adds to the growing list of successes recorded by AEI scholars and further underscores the initiative’s vision of producing globally competitive graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national and international development.
AEI used the occasion to call on Nigerian youths at home and abroad to emulate Scholar Fatade’s example.
