The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, ljebu-Remo Zone, in Ogun State, has recently empowered widows with cash donations, food items and small scale business equipment.
The materials and cash were given to the widows to mark the World Widows Day which held across the globe last month with the theme “Invisible women, invisible Problems.”
Though the day has gone, the memory will linger in the minds of the 10 Widows who will be relief from stigmatization, poverty and other effects of widowhood.
Apart from cash donations, other items included grinding machines, show glasses, Cam cylinders as well as food items and condiments.
The programme was held at Wulemotu Otubu Memorial Mosque Hall, ljebu-ode and the guests who were mostly Zakat Donors were full of appreciation to the organizers of the event.
One of the organisers, Mr Abdul Lateef Lawal, commended the Foundation for the laudable programme which was aimed at lifting the windows out of poverty through empowerment and to educate the people against stigmatizing them.
Applications were demanded from widows who have challenges with feeding, health and their businesses and they were shortlisted based on the urgency of the challenge.
The main donors for the event were Alhaji lmam Abdulwasiu Ghazali, the Eketa Adeen lsonyin Central Mosque and Alhaja Ghaniyat Makinde, Propritress, Migration Group of Schools, ljebu-ode.
