The Alimosho Professional Group, APG, has held a training on Fundamentals of Project Management for its members and some interested members of the public.
Organized in conjunction with Weebiz Centre, the training, held on Saturday February 22, 2020 at the Cedar Point Event Centre, Iyana Ipaja, aimed to equip participants with project management skills that will assist them in their various fields.
Project Management defined
Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to achieve project’s objectives.
It can also be explained as the practice of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work of a team to achieve specific goals and meet specific success criteria at the specified time.
At the one-day training, experts from multinational companies, including Nokia Networks, Pan African Towers, StanbicIBTC Pension Manager and Teknohub Solutions Management Limited, tutored participants on how to navigate the project management process.
The process, according to the experts, include, project initiation, project planning, project execution, project monitoring and control, and project closing.
The Lead Speaker, Mr Kazeem Lawal, Head, Project Management Office, StanbicIBTC Pension Manager, identified some of the requisite skills that a good project manager must have.
They include, Technical skills, Business skills, Problem-solving skills, Interpersonal skills and
Leadership skills.
Essence of PM certifications
He explained that, as would-be project managers, they need to have various Projects Management (PM) certifications for them to have better job performance, global acknowledgement, resume boosting for better job opportunities, smart future investment and better remuneration.
A Senior Software Engineer with over 15 years hands-on experience, Hajia Rahmah Oshoala, shared some of her project management experiences with participants.
Hajia Oshoala, who is the Vice President at Teknohub Solutions Management Limited, said project management is, no doubt, a tasking job but with focus, commitment and dedication, she has been able to weather the storm and stay afloat.
The Regional Network Planning and Optimization Project Manager, Nokia Networks, Mr. Aminu Saba and the Head, Project Deployment Office, Pan African Towers, Mr. Idris Mustapha also offered some tips on the Project Management Process.
Training goals
The Chairman Organising Committee for the training, Mr. Ismail Ogunyomi, said the training was organized to equip APG members with one of the major tools that will enhance efficient and effective performance on their various fields of endeavours.
According to him “fundamentals of Project management was carefully selected as the topic discussed.”
“At the end of the training, participants should be able to successfully manage projects relating to their economic, social and family life,” he added.
Mr Ogunyomi, who is the Proprietor and Chief Executive Officer, Earnest Schools, told the participants that the one day event was just an introductory session, that more would still come on details of project management.
In a Goodwill message, the Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Mr Jelili Sulaimon, advised the participants to utilise the knowledge shared by various experts at the training.
He thanked the organisers of the training, saying the session could not have come at a better time than now.
The participants, on their part, appreciated the organisers, saying the training was eye-opening experience.
