Calculus schools celebrates nine years of academic excellence

Calculus Comprehensive Schools in Ijoba, Ado-Odo Otta area of Ogun State, has celebrated nine years of academic excellence since its establishment, setting new targets for the 10th year.

In the 2023 NECO exams, the school recorded 100% success rate by its students, while it also achieved 75% in the 2024 UTME exams. All these are devoid of examination malpractices.

The Proprietor, Alhaji Kamaldeen Jaiyeola, who reeled out these feats at the school’s 9th Prize Giving Day/Graduation ceremony, on Tuesday, 30th July, appreciated parents, noting that the successes would have been impossible without their support.

“We are able to achieve all the aforementioned as a result of the support given to us by our amiable parents. On this note, I appreciate the input and support of every parent,” he said.

He also acknowledged the commitments and sacrifices made by the students up to point of their graduation and urged them not to relent as “it is not over until it is over.”

The Best Graduating Student and Headboy of the graduating set, Soliudeen Olohunseye, advised his colleagues to hold tightly onto the lessons learnt in Calculus and be good ambassadors of Islam, as they go into the larger society.

An elated parent, Mrs. Adeyinka Olapade, told Community Standard, that the administrators of Calculus were so committed to the growth, development and well-being of every student.

“One thing I’ll always appreciate about the school is the audience they give every parent. They always tell us to register all our displeasure and they work upon every complaint.

“Aside that, I must appreciate the Proprietor, Alhaji Kamaldeen Jaiyeola and the Board Chairman, Alhaji Abdul-Mujeeb Ogungbayi. This duo has been very supportive to my daughter since she graduated from Calculus. They guided and counselled her through the admission seeking process. Soon, she’ll be in 200L studying Law and they’re still looking out for her,” she explained

Communication, not coercion

Speaking at the event, a revered counselor and educator, Dr Maryam Badmus-Obalola, advised that parents should learn to communicate better with their children and avoid the use of coercion and capital punishment.

Discussing ‘21st Century mode of parenting,’ Dr. Badmus-Obalola said that traditional approaches to parenting are no longer as effective as they used to be, submitting that “as Muslims, we have a great responsibility and we must be up and doing.”

She also pleaded with parents, teachers and care givers never to curse the children in their care.

Also speaking at the event, an experienced educator, Hajia Zainab Mustapha, warned parents to mind the contents consumed by their children on different media, adding that a lot has gone wrong and children are being corrupted by what they see on TV and social media.

A caution against protest

A Friend and colleague of the Proprietor of Calculus, Alhaji Murshid Abayomi Adeleke, who was also in attendance, advised parents of the graduands to continue providing guidance for their wards, as they are not fully aware of the realities out there.

He specifically told parents and guardians to warn the youths against partaking in the planned nationwide ‘Endbadgovernance’ protest commencing tomorrow August 1, 2024.

“The youths are unaware of the fact that sponsors of this protest have their ulterior motives. The youths are nothing but their pawns. There is no peaceful protest in Nigeria, we can all see it. The 2020 Endsars experience is still fresh in our memories. You claimed you were agitating against police brutality, but you looted goods of innocent business owners, attacked the BRT and set TVC ablaze. What has all these got to do with police brutality.

“So, it is incumbent upon every parent/guardian to warn the youths sternly against such protest, as there are better ways of making agitations known to government,” he said.

Calculus Comprehensive School is situated in Ijoba, Cele, an area that connects Alimosho Local Govt Area of Lagos and Ado-Odo Otta of Ogun State.
