Although a particular date has not been fixed, authorities at the Oshodi Isolo Local Government have held a sensitisation meeting with private schools owners ahead of imminent reopening.
At the meeting with executives of the Association of Private Schools Owners, ASPO, the council implored the association to start preparing ahead of resumption by putting the necessary facilities in place to fight against the spread Covid 19.
The Head, Environmental Services of the Local Government, Akeem Adeoye, said necessary measures and conditions must be met before the schools can be certified for re-opening.
These include, having Infra-thermometer, routine decontamination of learning environment, compulsory use of facemask by staff and students, constant washing of the hands with hand sanitizers and strict adherence to social and physical distancing among others.
“The fight against the spread of novel virus known as COVID-19 is ongoing as the vaccine for the cure is yet to be out which implies that necessary measures to tame the spread must be maintained which is the essence for the interactive meeting.
“The Environmental services of the council has been mandated by the government to ensure that both public and private institutions are certified before commencing operation after the lift for reopening.
“It is on this note, that the Council Authority has been doing all within the confines of law and regulation to get your association alert before the full reopening of schools,” Adeoye said.
In the same vein, the head of the Council’s Legal Unit, Barr. Femi Kareem, explained further on the place of law for all institutions such as the school to be well certified before opening after the lockdown necessitated by COVID-19.
He explained the provision of the law regarding the state executive order and conditions that must be met for the full re-opening of schools.
The President of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Chapter of ASPO, Mr.Obiola Ayinde, appreciated the council authority for the meeting while he assured that the association would look into the measures and conditions that must be put in place before re-opening.
Other local government officials at the meeting were the Super. for Environment, Hon.Yusuf Adesanya, Super for Education, Hon.Ganiu Mejidande.
