Calculus Schools @ 10: Management recommits to academic, moral excellence 

… Gives recognition awards to supportive parents, others

… Launches maiden edition of magazine

The Management of Calculus Comprehensive Schools in Ijoba, Ado-Odo Otta area of Ogun State, has reaffirmed its commitment to producing outstanding individuals for the society every year.

This commitment comes as the school held its 10th Anniversary/End of the Session Party on Saturday, 2nd August 2025.

The Proprietor, Alhaji Kamaldeen Jayeola, said that the last ten years had been that of impact and purposeful commitment to nurturing the future leaders.

He said Calculus Comprehensive tries to exemplify excellence at all times and every way possible.

According to him, “that’s the reason we’ve made remarkable achievements and left indelible marks in the lives of our students over the last decade. Our old students have left the premises of this school, but held on to its value. They’re all doing well for themselves. We know this much because we’re still in touch with them.”

While expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah, Alhaji Jayeola, said that the joy of the day’s occasion was a charge for the school to do more of the good work it’s been doing over time.

He also appreciated parents who have remained supportive over the years.

“My ever cooperative and steadfast parents, today, we’re celebrating the camaraderie you’ve shown us over time. We’re celebrating your darling children, within and outside the country. It’s obvious that they sacrificed their pleasures, for moral rectitude, spiritual uplift and academic excellence during their days in Calculus, and they’ve continued to do the same, in their respective fields of study and practice.”

He congratulated the graduating set, expressed great confidence in them and extended kudos to the Alumilni for continually making the school proud.

The Guest speaker, Haleemah Abdul Kareem, an SS1 student of the school, highlighted some of the challenges of parenting and child upbringing in the 21st century, which according to her, affect the overall well-being of the children.

She noted that the decline in moral values and negative social media influences currently unfolding in the society were a result of failed parenting.

She said: “Our moral standard have fallen dratically. Today, many immoral acts are seen as funny or the new normal. People laugh when they see them happen, and that’s very bad. Social media, is another menace on its own. Many children have learnt on the Internet and parents are unaware. You don’t know what children are doing online.

“Another big problem, is the absence of parents. Some parents today, are busy with work, business, career, travelling, that they don’t even have the time for their children. They’re absent emotionally, are not there to guide. This makes such children vulnerable.”

Ms. Abdul Kareem, therefore, implored parents to raise kids that are God-conscious, as piety is an essential need.

“Raise your children according to teachings of the Qur’an and practices of the Prophet (PBUH). Raise them the way Allah has instrcted. Let them be aware of Allah’s presence and lead their lives to please hìn. Teach them to live the sunnah of the prophet That’s the only way your mind can be at rest.”

She concluded that “although parenting ín this current time and age can be very demanding, but with great, unwavering support and prayer, you can very confident that your children will not derail.”

Speaking with Community Standard, Ms Abdul Kareem noted that she was uneasy at the beginning of her presentation, but felt better not long after. She thanked Calculus Comprehensive College, for the rare privilege given her.

Calculus School Alumni President, Anas Kamaldeen, advised both the graduating and other students to be good ambassadors of the school.

While promising continued support for the school, Anas told the students to understand that they are the hope of the society as the future waits them.

“To the students – you’re the future. Walk the halls of this school with pride. Learn, grow, and remember that the world awaits what only you can offer. Take full advantage of this environment and carry the name “Calculus Comprehensive College” with honour and excellence.”

The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman, Mr Aliu Shoyemi, who was awarded for community service, told Community Standard that the management and staff of Calculus are very responsive.

He said: “Calculus Comprehensive Schools is one of the best schools I’ve ever known. I’m one the founding parents here, and I can tell you that whenever we make our concerns known, the school is quick to act upon and proffer lasting solution.”

Other awardees are Mrs Rofiat Omotayo Adekola, Mrs Shukurat Mojisola Obalanlege, Mr/Mrs Abdul-Lateef Ajibade and Mr/Mrs Adeyinka Olawale Olapade.

Long serving staffers were also rewarded alongside students who topped their respective classes.

The high point of the event was the unveiling of the maiden edition of the school magazine, The Calculians.

It is an aimed at encouraging writing, research, and promoting reading culture among the students.

Guests and parents were present, received the publication warmly, and launched it generously.
