The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, today met with the leaders of various markets to dicuss security of the markets.
The meeting was convened at the instance of the police commissioner following alleged threats of attacks on the markets in the state.
The meeting had in attendance the leaders of Alaba International Market, Ladipo, Computer village, Trade Fair, Balogun, Lagos Island and other markets.
After thorough deliberations on the security situations in the markets, the CP Odumosu reassured the market leaders of adequate protection of lives and property, including customers and workers in their respective markets.
The police boss dispelled rumoured news of attacks on the markets, saying there was no cause for alarm, adding that all hands were on deck to neutralise any form of attacks in any part of the state.
In their responses, the market leaders pointed out some areas where the command and the Lagos State Government should focus and improve on, especially, on the installation of CCTV cameras at major markets, and regular deployment of police personnel and other security agencies to the markets.
Lagos Police Spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement seen by Community Standard, said the market leaders promised to work closely with the Commissioner of Police to reciprocate his thoughtfulness and proactiveness towards having effective policing of the markets and the Lagos State in general.
“The markets’ leaders unequivocally applauded the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu and his team in the command for their efforts and modern policing style in securing Lagos State,” he said.
