IMOTA, IKORODU LAGOS – Three suspected cultists have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command during an intelligence-led operation in Imota.
Firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons were recovered in the process.
The arrest was disclosed in a press release issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to the statement, the operation followed credible information from members of the public on the activities of suspected cultists in the area. Acting on the intelligence, police operatives stormed the location and arrested 37-year-old Jelili Adeyemo, alleged to be the group’s armourer, 42-year-old Bisoye Adewale, and 60-year-old John Okeafo.
Recovered exhibits include one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs and four cutlasses, among other items.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity. The Command added that the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who is currently at large.
The statement noted that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state. He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, noting that community cooperation remains vital to enhancing security.
Residents were further encouraged to report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through the Lagos State Police Command’s emergency lines.
