The Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Mr Valentine Buraimoh has described the incident that led to the death of his media aide as a condemnable.
The late Chief Press Secretary, Irikefe Evwibovwe, died alongside three others in a ghastly motor accident after the Hilux van conveying him and some APC members to a rally of the party’s candidate for Lagos-West Senatorial district, Senator Olamilekan Solomon, lost control and tumbled shortly after the link bridge at Festac extension road in Amuwo Odofin on Monday.
The rally, however, continued despite the accident.
Mr Buraimoh expressed sadness, saying the rally ought to have been suspended because of the incident.
“We are human beings, even an animal demands little respect, let alone individual lives,” he said.
He, however, revealed that Senator Solomon came to his house in the company of Hon. Akeem Bello to condole with him after the rally on that day, and with a promise to visit the family of the bereaved afterwards.
The Council boss was speaking when members of the Association of Chief Press Secretaries, Conference 57 CPS, paid him a condolence visit at his Lakeview Estate residence in Amuwo-Odofin yesterday.
He urged the group to write formally to Senator Solomon and express its displeasure on why the rally was not suspended to sympathize with family members and friends of the bereaved.
Mr Buraimoh, who described the late Irikefe as a humble, vibrant and intelligent CPS, thanked representatives of the group who came to condole with him over the death of one of their members.
The CPS to the Iba LCDA chairman, Oluwadare Saheed, commended Mr Buraimoh for the show of solidarity over the demise of his CPS.
According to him, late Irikefe was unable to wear the uniform of the CPS Conference 57, hence the need to present it to the Chairman as a mark of respect to the dead.
“It’s quite unfortunate that our colleague never stayed to wear this regalia, we cannot hold it, and as the Principal we have to present it to you,” he said.
