The representative of the Patriotic Youth League, PYL, Muhammad Mustapha, has emerged the Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Igando-Ikotun Branch, Lagos State.
Mustapha, a post graduate student of Guidance and Counselling, University of Ilorin, garnered a total of 28 votes to defeat his main challenger, Aroyewun Afeez of the Mujilis Mukadam, who got just two votes at the NYCN electoral Congress recently at the Igando Ikotun LCDA Hall, Ikotun.
The electoral Congress tagged, ”Progressive Congress 2021″ also ushered in other executive members that will assist Mustapha in piloting the affairs of the council.
A total of 15 registered organizations participated in the election.
The election, held under the supervision of a representative from the Office of Agriculture & Youth Development, came as a relief for youths and stakeholders of the local branch, which has been inactive for some time now.
Other members of the new cabinet include, Onuorah Nancy from Red Cross Society as Deputy Coordinator, Amuwa Mayowa Sunday from Man O War as Secretary, Oloyede Shakirat Jimoh from Al-Muminaat Organization, as Assistant General Secretary, Kolade Abdulganiy from EMY as Financial Secretary, Ugochukwu Chioma from World Peace Youth as Treasurer, Onilogbo Ilesanmi Basheer from FGBC as PRO, Maleek Yussuf Olajide from The Muslim Congress, TMC, as Auditor and Hamzat Abdulgafar from Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, MSSN, as Social Secretary.
The new coordinator thanked everyone for their support and promised to fulfill all his campaign promises.
He had promised to strengthen NYCN for effective advocacy, engage in massive youth orientation and empowerment, as well as strengthening institutional relationships between the Council and other development partners/organizations with the aim of bringing all stakeholders on board.
This, according to him, will ensure efficiency and higher productivity from the Council.
Mustapha also said that his administration would create awareness and encourage youths to take advantage of the numerous youth support services available.
He added that a volunteer Sanitation and Traffic Team, that will assist the government in environmental sanitation activities and traffic control, would be established.
“Your growth and development as a youth is dependent on your Education and Welfare. I am determined to ensure your growth and development as a youth by ensuring that issues relating to your academic interests and welfare are dealt with efficiently and effectively,” he added.
Others leaders and stakeholders present at the Congress were, Adeleye AbdulHameed, former Coordinator of NYCN Mosan Okunola Branch, Opeifa, Coordinator NYCN Ayobo Ipaja, Financial Secretary, Egbe Idimu NYCN, Abdullah Tirmidhi among others.
The Muhammad Mustapha led-administration will be formally inaugurated by the State NYCN at a later date to be announced.
