AGBADO/OKE-ODO, LAGOS – The Community Development Committee (CDC), Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has announced plans to hold its 2026 Leadership Workshop.
The workshop, to hold in partnership with the Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA, is aimed at strengthening the capacity of community leaders to address emerging security challenges and promote sustainable development at the grassroots.
Themed “Strengthening Community Resilience for Security and Safety in Nigeria,” it is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 9.00 a.m. at Magrettas Hall, Agbele-Ekoro Road, via Baba-Egbe, Meiran, Lagos.
The workshop is expected to attract executives of Community Development Associations, Joint CDA officials, community leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives, security stakeholders, government officials, civil society organisations and development partners committed to advancing security, peace and sustainable community development in Lagos State.
Building Community Capacity
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the CDC, Mr. Earnest Olabowale Kasumu, the programme is designed to equip community leaders with practical knowledge and collaborative strategies for tackling contemporary security challenges while fostering stronger community governance.
Kasumu said the initiative reflects the committee’s commitment to promoting visionary leadership, encouraging grassroots participation in security matters, and strengthening partnerships among stakeholders to build safer communities.
He noted that with evolving security threats across the country, there is an urgent need for community-driven solutions through dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.
“The workshop represents another significant step toward building resilient communities capable of preventing security threats, responding effectively to emergencies, and sustaining peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Focus on Security, Peacebuilding
He added that discussions at the workshop would focus on leadership development, conflict prevention, crime reduction, community policing, emergency preparedness, stakeholder collaboration and sustainable peacebuilding.
Kasumu stressed that ensuring security is a collective responsibility that requires effective leadership and active collaboration among government institutions, traditional rulers, security agencies, Community Development Associations (CDAs), youth and women groups, religious organisations and other critical stakeholders.
Call for CDA Nominations
As part of preparations for the programme, the CDC directed every Community Development Association within the LCDA to nominate one representative to participate in the workshop.
The nominations are to be forwarded through the respective Joint CDAs, while all Joint CDAs have been requested to submit the names of their nominees to the CDC General Secretary, Mr. Sakiru Oguntola, on or before Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to facilitate accreditation and logistical arrangements.
The committee also urged CDAs to nominate committed and capable representatives who would not only participate actively in the workshop but also share the knowledge and best practices acquired with members of their respective communities.
Call for Stakeholder Collaboration
Kasumu expressed confidence that the workshop would deepen collaboration among stakeholders and promote innovative, community-based approaches to tackling insecurity and enhancing public safety.
He called on all invited participants to attend punctually and contribute meaningfully to discussions aimed at building safer, stronger and more resilient communities.
“Strong leadership inspires resilient communities. Together, we can secure our neighbourhoods protect lives and property, and build a safer future for generations to come,” he said.
