The Chief Imam of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulhakeem Abdulateef, has advised Muslims to join politics if they want to make positive change in the society
He said failure to do this will ensure misfits get elected in government and decide their fate.
Hon. Abdulateef spoke on Sunday at a Pre-Ramadan Lecture organised by The Muslim Congress, TMC, Alimosho Local Government.
He urged Muslims to get their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, for them to be able elect righteous personalities into power in the 2019 general elections.
Speaking on the topic ‘Towards a pious nation, the role of the ummah’ the Lagos Assembly Chief Imam explained that the fear of Allah should form the basis upon which Muslims must anchor their desire to change the society for better.
According to him, the absence of the fear of Allah in Nigeria today is the crux of the country’s crisis.
He said the ultimate goal of Ramadan is to instill this fear of Allah in people, adding that Muslims must to advantage of the holy month to reform themselves and impact the society positively.
‘Strive and make this coming Ramadan your best if you are fortunate to witness it because death may come visiting any moment,” he advised.
Hon. Abdulateef, who is also the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, used the occasion to appeal that Muslims in Nigeria should commence Ramadan fast once the Sultan of Sokoto makes the announcement on moonsighting.
He warned against the practice of fixing dates, which most times leads to disunity among Muslims in Nigeria.
The TMC had, earlier in the day, held a medical caravan which conducted check ups for residents of Abesan gate and environs.
The Wakil of TMC, Alimosho LG, Alhaji Abdurrasheed Soetan said the medical caravan provided opportunity for beneficiaries to know the health status in preparation for Ramadan.
‘The lecture is to boost the spiritual preparation of Muslims ahead of the coming Ramadan fast,’ he added.
The lecture was held at the frontage of Ansarudeen Central Mosque, Abesan Estate and it witnessed a large turnout of residents and Islamic scholars.
