The Chairman, Egbe Idimu Local Council Development Area, Mr Kunle Sanyaolu, has allegedly slapped an officer of the Lagos Neighbourhood Security Corps, Olani Kehinde for not carrying out his orders.

A source in the know informed Community Standard that the chairman assaulted Officer Kehinde while telling him to do what was not even related to his job.

According to the source, a superior officer to Kehinde, who the Chairman could have asked to give him order, was around, but he did not do that.

“Something unusual happened in the local government where I work this afternoon and I felt it is a thing of shame, a Local Government chairman slapped one of our Officers because he was telling him to do what is not even related to his work while his superior officer who he can ask to give him order was there.

“To cut the long story short Sir, Egbe Idimu LCDA Chairman, Kunle Sanyaolu, slapped one of our officers while on LNSC uniform and even asked some touts to beat him up but the touts cautioned themselves and were asking him why should they beat him, the Chairman slapped our Officer without our Officer retaliating.

“I felt embarrassed that a LG Chairman could stoop so low and I see it as an abuse of power. I don’t know how cases like this can be treated to avoid future occurrence. The Officer that was involved has reported the case to Idimu Police Station, Area M,” the source said.

Council boss denies allegation

The chairman has, however, denied the allegation, describing it as baseless, mere blackmail and defamation of his character.

Media aide to the council boss, Oyejobi Olakunle, in a statement, made available to Community Standard, narrated what transpired.

“Let me state emphatically that the Council Boss is an upholder of peace and an easy going by nature and conduct. Also, he won’t in anyway join in humiliating any personality no matter the person’s background.

“The Officer in question was sighted at the entrance of the Council Secretariat standing idly while some of his colleagues, his Commandant Officer (CO) and even the Council Chairman himself were controlling the traffic during the Asphalt laying of Isheri/Lasu Expressway, Isheri Round about so as to ease the movement of the motorists.

“When he was approached to join his colleagues, he was just staring at the Council Boss like he’s not the person he’s been referred to.

“His nonchalant attitude to the Chairman raised the eyebrow of some of the guys that were there and it was the Council Boss that even resisted them not to touch him. Then reported his action to his superior boss,” he explained.
