Authorities of the Igando Ikotun Local Council Development Area have warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and building constructions on the water ways.
The warning comes as most drainages within the LCDA had been blocked thereby causing flooding whenever it rains.
To mitigate the effect of flooding during the rainy season, the LCDA has, therefore, commenced clearing of blocked drainage systems and repair of damaged ones across communities in the area council.
The LCDA boss, Morenike Adesina Williams, said that the council embarked on the projects to avert flooding and allow for smooth passage of water in the systems.
A release issued by the Media Aide to the chairman, Oseni Abayomi, quoted her saying, “We decided to embark on immediate clearing of blocked drainage systems and water paths following reports of flooding in recent times.
“Some of the drainage were filled with sands, plastic bottles, while some are already damaged. We decided to evacuate the sands and repair the damaged ones to curb flooding during the raining season.”
“Before we started this project, some residents leaving in the affected areas where the drainage were blocked, have been experiencing incessant flooding.
“We decided to help them repair all the drainage to allow free flow of water and put a stop to flooding in the area,” she said.
