In the society today, it’s quickly becoming a norm among single individuals of the opposite sex to develop feelings, often regarded as ‘crush’ towards each other. It’s a natural feeling that comes with attaining puberty stage.
However, if not properly nurtured, it has a tendency to affect the personal development of the individual(s) involved.
To help channel these thoughts properly, a Non-governmental Organization, Pearl Rose Foundation (PRF) hosted a “Singles Seminar” for youths in the Alimosho vicinity.
The seminar, themed “Journey to Love” was held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Muhibat Memorial School, Egbeda, and had in attendance both males and females.
In an opening remark, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Isa Elegbede, gave a brief about the body, explaining that the seminar was one of the activities the foundation organise to guide youths towards making right and informed decisions ahead of marriage.
The Guest Speaker, Engr. Aminu Saba, while discussing the theme of the seminar, explained the difference between Love and Infatuation.
“You can crush without crashing. You should know when to draw the line. There are some misconceptions about love, we need to know, and one of them is believing that there is a perfect person for everybody. You can love the right way, and there are questions you should ask yourself that will help shape your thoughts before taking steps towards it,” he said.
Saba identified ways by which the audience can avoid unhealthy relationships.
“Being in secluded places with the opposite sex, too much gazing, secret calls and fantasizing about opposite sex are some of those things to be avoided,” he noted.
The participants were distributed into a group of 4 for a Workshop session. Each group had its topic, and a representative to discuss it after the group discussion.
Commenting on the workshop session, another facilitator, Mr Qasim Lawal said, “if you’re not ready for marriage, don’t go into dating. It eventually leads to emotional damage.”
For, Hajia Rufaidah Alejo, the Mother of the Day, every relationship should be to worship Allah.
“The decision of marriage shouldn’t be taken alone. You need to consult before taking the decision”, she added.
The seminar was indeed worthwhile, as the delight could be seen on the faces of the attendees.
One of the attendees, Olowoyobiojo Miftaudeen told Community Standard that, “it was really impactful. We had a lot to digest from the various sessions held. Big thanks to the organizers”.
Another attendee, Adebisi Qudratullah said, ” it was educative. We were able to get the actual meaning of love and the steps to take before marriage. More of such programs will be appreciated.”
