The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has threatened to proscribe the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Agbado Oke Odo and Alimosho.

The proscription threat will not be carried out only if the Union replaces and repairs government vehicles destroyed during the faceoff with LASTMA and the Taskforce Officials enforcing the ban on motorcycles and tricycles at Iyana-Ipaja corridor two weeks ago.

The Chairman of Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area, Dr. Augustine Arogundade, relayed the governor’s threat when he met with leaders of NURTW Agbado Okeodo Branch, at the council Secretariat in Abule Egba.

“I have been mandated by Mr. Governor to relate to you all his decision to proscribe NURTW activities within Agbado Okeodo LCDA in particular and Alimosho at large if those government vehicles damaged in faceoff that ensued during enforcement of outright ban of motorcycles and tricycles are not replaced or repaired.

“Although, our Governor didn’t give a time frame on when to act, hence my meeting with you all to relate his message and warn that his order must be taken seriously, hence the proscription of your activities here,” he said.

While promising to take responsibility for the crisis, the NURTW leaders appealed to the LCDA boss to beg Governor Sanwoolu on their behalf.

They assured the Chairman that their State Executives would be briefed about the message from the Governor, and that urgent action would be taken on issues raised to avoid proscription of their activities.

The Media Aide to the Chairman, Edafe Oghenebrume, said in a statement that his boss used the occasion to mandate the Union to pay all outstanding revenues of the LCDA in its possession into the coffers of the council without further delay.

It would be recalled that two Hilux Van belonging to the LASTMA and the Task Force were set ablazed at the Iyana Ipaja Roundabout during the mayhem.
