On Tuesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commissioned Oshodi-Abule-Egba Bus Rapid Transit corridor in an effort to ease transportation within the city.
But just a few minutes drive and a walkable distance from where the ceremony was going on lies one of the blemishes of a struggling mega city the governor himself would have been sober about.
This age-long road unpopular amongst residents in the Agbado Oke Odo LCDA can best be described as Aboru Road. It connects Pipeline, Amoke Alasela, Alabede and Ige street, to Iyana Ipaja.
A major road such that once traffic builds up on the Lagos-Abeokuta Express Way, motorists-especially going to Egbeda, Ikotun, Igando and other areas along that axis-link that road to connect their various destinations. You see this mostly in the morning and evening rush.
Unfortunately as important as this road may seem, it remains in a terrible state as it has received little or no attention from the present Lagos state government or its predecessors thereby subjecting residents and motorists who daily ply the route to needless frustrations.
A journalists who sent it the pictures, Sulaimon Alamutu, decried the dilapidated state of the road, adding that the road remains the same in both rainy or dry seasons. He recalled how politicians have promised to help rehabilitate the road but have failed to do so.
He is hoping the LASG will extend a handshake to the growing communities in the area and ensure they taste of ‘the good of the land’. In the meantime see the horrible state of Aboru Road for yourself.
