The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Lagos State Chapter, marked its annual Family Day celebration on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Main Bowl, Lagos.
The event, a cherished tradition held to commemorate Eid-l-Fitr, brought together families and friends in a vibrant gathering following the Ramadan fast.
This year’s Family Day, themed “Passing on the Baton: A Practical Guide to Effective Islamic Parenting,” underscored FOMWAN’s commitment to fostering strong family values rooted in Islamic principles. The event drew a large crowd of attendees eager to participate in a day filled with insightful lectures, family bonding activities, and community engagement.
The program was chaired by Mr. Olaniyi Mumini Yusuf, Chairman of Verraki Partners, with Hadija Bola S. Majekodunmi serving as the Chairperson. Adding depth to the occasion, Hajia Maryam Lemu, a renowned relationship coach and founder of Maryam Lemu Marriage Academy, delivered a compelling lecture on effective Islamic parenting. Her lecture provided practical insights for parents on nurturing children in accordance with Islamic teachings while addressing contemporary challenges.
The event also honored distinguished individuals as “Fathers of the Day” and “Mothers of the Day.” Among the fathers recognized were Alhaji Libari Adegboyega Akanji Oseni and Alhaji Chief Idris Ajoma Iwalesin, while Alhaja Amdalat A. Amusan and Alhaja Safurat Olufunke Bakare, Proprietress of Ikraam Ideal Model School, were celebrated as Mothers of the Day. Hosting the event was Alhaja Serifat O. Ajagbe, Amirah of FOMWAN Lagos State Chapter, whose leadership ensured a seamless and impactful program.
FOMWAN’s Family Day has long been a cornerstone of the organization’s efforts to strengthen community ties and promote unity among Muslim families in Lagos. The annual event provides a platform for families to come together in celebration, reflect on shared values, and gain knowledge on pertinent issues such as parenting, faith, and community building.
Speaking at the event, the Amirah, Alhaja Serifat O. Ajagbe, emphasized the importance of family unity in today’s fast-paced world. “Our Family Day is a reminder of the beauty of togetherness. After the spiritual journey of Ramadan, this gathering allows us to reconnect with our loved ones and equip ourselves with the knowledge to raise our children in the best way possible,” she said.
Attendees lauded the event for its organization and the relevance of the theme. “The lecture by Hajia Maryam Lemu was eye-opening. It gave us practical steps to balance modern parenting with Islamic values,” shared a participant, Mrs. Fatimah Adebayo, who attended with her family.
The 2025 FOMWAN Family Day concluded with prayers for the continued growth and unity of the Muslim community in Lagos, leaving attendees inspired and connected. As FOMWAN Lagos State Chapter looks ahead, the organization remains dedicated to its mission of empowering Muslim women and families through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
