The residents of Olumo Street in Aboru have called on both the state and local governments to come to their rescue as erosion continues to destroy the road on the street.
The call came as flood resulting from Sunday afternoon’s heavy downpour washed away part of the drainage on the street, thereby rendering the already dilapidated road more impassable.
Chairman of Olohunsogo South Community Development Association, Jamiu Yusuf, expressed concern over the rate at which the road is being eroded.
He told Community Standard that the CDA cannot handle the problem, appealing to the government to, as a matter of urgency, come to the rescue of the community.
“It’s a major concern for us as CDA but we don’t have the capacity to address the problem. It’s only the government that can do it. We are using this opportunity to appeal to them, especially our LCDA Chairman, to visit this place to ascertain the level of damage and find solutions,” he said.
It would be recalled that Community Standard last year October reported that officials of the LAWMA Environmental Task Force arrested some residents for allegedly dumping refuse in the drainage.
In a follow up report by this medium, Lagosians, though commended the government for the arrest, said the government should be ashamed of the poor condition of the street road.
