A security summit has ended in Alimosho with the launch of the the Local Government’s Security Trust Find.
The Trust Fund is an initiative of the Jelili Sulaimon-led administration to enable adequate funding of security within the local government.
It will create an opportunity for private companies and individuals to contribute to the security efforts of the administration.
The Local Government Chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, expressed optimism that corporate bodies and individuals would key into the initiative by donating to the trust fund.
Speaking at the summit, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reiterated his commitment to the safety of lives and property.
Mr Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Technical Director, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mr. Adegbola Luwes, also showed his readiness to support and collaborate with corporate bodies and local governments to strengthen security in Lagos State.
According to him, “security is one of the three main things human beings needed for survival. Security is expensive, there is gross deficit in security funding in Nigeria. This initiative will bring back our desired security.”
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Frank Osita, a retired Commissioner of Police in Lagos, called for community policing while speaking on the theme “improving general security for sustainable peace and development in Alimosho Local Government.”
The Chairman of Egbe Idimu, Mr. Kunle Sanyaolu, commended the efforts of Alimosho Local Government as he promised to replicate the security initiative in his area.
The traditional ruler of Shasha land, Oba Ogunronbi Akinowo 1, urged residents to support the initiative, saying security is an expensive business that government alone cannot tackle.
The summit had several stakeholders in attendance which included, community and religious leaders, political leaders, youths, artisans, corporate bodies and Non-governmenyal Organisations.
