The Environmental Task Force of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government has arrested two suspected manhole thieves while attempting to cart away the stolen manholes.

The manholes were allegedly stolen from 401 and 512 roads respectively.

The arrest was a result of the strategic session held by the local government chairman, Mr. Valentine Buraimoh on Zero tolerance to crime.

Chairman of the Task Force, Mr. Marcus Adetifa, said the buyers of the stolen manhole covers have also been identified.

“We have not only apprehended these ones who would serve as deterrents to others in such sharp practice, we. We will make sure that the syndicate-chain are prosecuted and the trade totally discouraged and unprofitable,” he said.

Adetifa also added that “the directive from the Mayor is clear, we are to make Amuwo Odofin Local Government inhabitable for miscreants like these.”

Stealing of manhole covers is a common practice is Lagos, and such put many unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians alike in serious danger.
