The free Information Communication Technology Centre donated by the member representing Alimosho Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Olufemi Adebanjo, has remained under lock.
The centre was commissioned in May, 2018.
The ICT centre, located within the Alimosho Local Government Secretariat in Akowonjo, is supposed to provide free internet access to members of the public between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday.
The facility, powered by solar energy, is also to provide access to free charging space for all.
With the commissioning six months ago, it was expected that members of the community would have been making use of the facility to improve their ICT knowledge and contribute positively to the society.
However, this has not been the case.
The facility, made with a small size ‘container,’ situated near the council’s ‘Oja Irorun,’ is currently lying fallow at the secretariat.
Community Standard even learnt that there was an attempted burglary recently on the centre, a development that is said to have elicited move by the council to open it for operation.
It was also gathered that the Media Aide to the chairman, will now use the place as his office.
Meanwhile, signs that the centre would not commence operation immediately, manifested on the day it was commissioned.
Sources say the commissioning ceremony was impromptu as the local government chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, was allegedly not in the know of the development.
The facility was only handed over to him but how it would operate, the logistics involved and the funding were not explicitly ironed out.
Residents of Alimosho, who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the centre, are waiting to see the centre begin operation, at least if that will be the only Dividend of Democracy to be enjoyed from their representative in the Federal legislative house.
