September 21st, 2021, will ever remain memorable not only for students but also staff of Egan Grammar school, both Junior and Senior.
It was a day filled with enthusiasm and joy as the past students of the school, popularly known as the millennium set year 2000, came visiting.
The visit was not just to motivate the students in their academic pursuits. The old students also showered the outstanding performers among the current students with gifts and awards.
The ceremony, chaired by the head boy of the set, Kazeem Lawal, who was represented by the Project Coordinator, Odunowo Toyin, had in attendance some of the past students of the citadel.
The homecoming training started with the Egan Senior Secondary School, with students turning out in their numbers to grace the occasion.
The anchor of event, Ogunleye Moses, encouraged the students never for once relent in their effort to succeed, urging them to always look on the brighter side of life.
One of the visiting alumni, Christopher Nwabusi, made the students understand that whichever department they find themselves, they can always excel.
He cited several examples among the past students to show how they have all excelled in their chosen careers.
The principal of the Senior Secondary School, Mrs. Ede-Agege R.E, thanked the old students for their homecoming.
She expressed her heart felt gratitude towards the gesture as she prayed for more of the activities.
Mrs. Ede-Agege specially recognized Odunnowo Toyin, being the only female in the train, for her dedication and commitments.
The elated principal was presented with an award of excellence by the Alumni In recognition of her service.
The senior school programme came to an end with vote of thanks from Jesutofunmi, one of the gift beneficiaries.
She expressed gratitude on behalf of her colleagues and promised to be good examples to their younger ones.
At Egan Junior Secondary School, another alumni, Owolabi Oluwatosin, told the students that failing in certain subjects or area should not be the deciding factor in their lives.
He reiterated the importance of not giving up, no matter what life may throw at them, pointing out that those that do not give up after several obstacles find “succeeding at anything” as hobby.
Dr. Sulaimon Adewale cautioned the students against the negative effects of keeping bad companies.
He encouraged them to uphold good moral uprights at all times, while also charging them to always be good ambassadors of the school.
The school principal, Mrs. Ogun Esther Olubunmi, was full of praises in her remarks about the event.
She appreciated the old students for not forgetting their academic source.
Mrs Olubunmi prayed for more strengths and vigour, hoping that the event will be an annual one.
The principal used the occasion to request the visitors to assist the school in the area of providing a computer laboratory, which she said, would further enhance the learning of ICT in the school.
Like her Senior school counterpart, the principal was also given “Award of Excellence” in recognition of her service to the school.
She presented a letter of appreciation to the visiting old students on behalf of the school.
The areas of recognitions for the senior students were the outstanding performers in the three departments (Science, Commercial, Arts), while the areas of recognitions for the junior school was the overall best students, (Yusuf Khadijat Omotoke and Azubike Mmesoma Rita), the most creative student (Chidera Emmaneul), and the best behaved (Enigbokan Semilore).
In a vote of thanks, the Most Creative Student, Chidera Emmanuel, expressed his gratitude and appreciation. He promised to be more determined in his studies.
