AYOBO, LAGOS – Residents of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA) may soon benefit from a modern Waste-to-Wealth facility as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun, has commenced steps towards the project’s implementation with a spot assessment of a proposed site.
The inspection marks a significant step in the council’s plan to transform waste management into an avenue for environmental sustainability, job creation and economic empowerment.
According to the Chairman, the proposed facility is designed to convert waste into valuable resources through recycling and resource recovery, while supporting the Lagos State Government’s vision of a cleaner and greener environment.
Speaking during the inspection, Agbaje said the initiative would not only improve sanitation but also create employment opportunities for youths, empower entrepreneurs and generate sustainable revenue for the council.
“Our administration is committed to redefining waste management in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA. This initiative is designed to convert waste into valuable resources, create meaningful employment opportunities for our youths, empower local entrepreneurs, improve public health and generate sustainable revenue for the council. We are building an environmentally responsible and economically resilient future for our people,” he said.
The Chairman noted that the proposed facility would help reduce indiscriminate waste disposal and support the production of compost, recyclable materials and other value-added products capable of boosting local businesses.
During the visit, the assessment team evaluated the proposed site’s accessibility, environmental suitability, operational feasibility and long-term sustainability to ensure it meets the requirements for an efficient waste management facility.
The inspection was attended by the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Olabode Samson Okeowo; the Special Adviser to the Chairman, Hon. Lanre Hassan; the Head of the Department of Environment, Mrs. Rachael; as well as environmental professionals and technical consultants.
If implemented, the Waste-to-Wealth project is expected to improve environmental sanitation, promote recycling, create jobs and contribute to the socio-economic development of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, while encouraging residents to see waste as a valuable resource rather than a burden.
