– Appeals to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Nigerians for urgent support
LAGOS, NIGERIA – After dedicating 16 years of her life to serving the people of Lagos State as a social worker, assisting vulnerable residents through some of their most difficult moments, Mrs. Adebola Caxton-Martins is now fighting for her own survival.
The wife and mother has been diagnosed with End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD), a life-threatening condition in which the kidneys have permanently lost their ability to function. According to her medical team, her only chance of survival is an urgent kidney transplant.
The life-saving procedure, including surgery, pre-transplant investigations, post-operative care, immunosuppressive medications and other associated medical expenses, is estimated to cost ₦45 million—an amount far beyond the financial capacity of her family.
Despite years of selfless service in the Lagos State public service, Adebola now faces a race against time to raise the funds needed for the transplant. So far, only about seven per cent of the target has been realised, leaving a balance of ₦41,724,000 still required to proceed with the operation.
Appeal for Support
Adebola has appealed to the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, corporate organisations, philanthropists, and compassionate Nigerians to come to her aid.
Her colleagues and members of the Medical Support Committee described the appeal as urgent, stressing that prompt intervention is critical because of the time-sensitive nature of her treatment.
“She has spent years giving hope and support to others in their moments of need. Today, she needs that same compassion from all of us,” her colleagues said in a joint statement.
How to Help
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Medical Support Committee said all donations are being monitored, while medical reports, hospital estimates and treatment plans are available for verification upon request.
According to the committee, every contribution, regardless of the amount, will make a significant difference. It noted that ₦50,000 can fund one session of life-sustaining dialysis, while ₦200,000 can cover dialysis treatments for one month.
