The Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Z&S, on Friday hosted Imams and other Muslims in Alimosho area to an Iftaar (breaking of fast) session as part of its annual Ramadan activities.
The programme, which held at the Shasha Central mosque, attracted Imams, Alfas and women groups as well as other fasting Muslims within Alimosho and environ.
Apart from the Iftaar session, the foundation also distributed clothing items to the less privilege in the community.
Appreciating the Imams
The Z&S Coordinator in Alimosho, Mr Jamiu Badrudeen, told Community Standard that the programme was aimed at appreciating the imams as well as provide relief to other fasting Muslims.
“The programme is a yearly event that gives us the opportunity of meeting our imams and breaking fast with them, as a way to appreciate their efforts.
“The clothings that we give out to the less privilege are donated by kindhearted people, to put smiles on the beneficiaries,” he said.
Speaking on the ‘The Role of Zakat in the Society,’ Ustaz Iskil Sholola of The Muslim Congress, TMC, Alimosho, explained that Zakat is a veritable tool towards alleviating poverty in the society.
Zakat benefits
He said prompt payment of Zakat by the rich will breed love in the society as the poor, who are the beneficiaries will be happy with them and also pray for them.

Ustaz Sholola, therefore, encouraged rich Muslims to pay their Zakat regularly for this will serve as purification for them and their wealth.
He said the Z&S is a foremost organisation in the effective collection and distribution of Zakat in Nigeria.
“I can assure you that Z&S is very reliable when it comes to Zakat collection and distribution,” he said.
The Chief Imam of Shasha Oguntade Central Mosque, Imam Opeloyeru, applauded the Z&S for the programme and prayed to Allah to continue strengthening the organisation.
He also lamented on how corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian society, where the rich continue to be richer at the expense of the poor.
He said poverty would be reduced to a barest minimum if rich Muslims pay their Zakat promptly.
