Charity, they say, begins at home. This, of course, does not resonate with the authorities of the Alimosho local government, at least going by the neglect of their host communities in terms of infrastructural development and attention.

No doubt, the Chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, based on feelers from some other residents of the local government, has performed appreciably well. However, his alleged preference for developing other areas, leaving the communities that host the council Secretariat at Akowonjo unattended to, is a source of concern for the residents.

Streets like Bada, Olatubosun, Oluwalogbon and Ifeniirepo, which border the local government Secretariat, are all in deplorable conditions. All the roads remain untarred.

A resident, Otunba Joshua Babatunde Omole, in response to a media release issued by the Media Aide to the Chairman, Jamiu Ayinde, on the completion of Ashabi Ajaigbe Street Road and drainage, lamented that “everytime we get write ups on how other streets and areas benefit. Probably we need to know where we have gone wrong and have to make amends.”

“All these streets have never benefitted from our honourable Chairman. Most times we wonder what our sins are,” he added.

Omole, while acknowledging and appreciating the works of the chairman, said all the streets bordering the local government Secretariat should also be given proper attention.

He explained that the drainage system in Williams Estate and Oluwalogbon street is very poor, adding that several representations in the past to the Chairman had yielded nothing for the communities.

Residents of Williams Estate and Oluwalogbon had to make personal financial efforts to partially alleviate the hardship their residents go through whenever there’s a heavy down pour,” he said.

The Spokeman to the Chairman, in response, said “everywhere cannot be touched in a day. The social and infrastructural development is in piecemeal. It is a matter of time, we will get there.”
